Types of Water Damage
Water damage can vary greatly depending on the source of water and the extent of its impact. Here are the main types of water damage:
1. Clean Water Damage
This type of damage comes from clean sources like broken pipes, malfunctioning appliances, or rainwater. The water is generally considered safe, though it can still cause damage to walls, floors, and furniture if not addressed quickly.
Examples: Burst water pipe, leaking faucet, or a water heater malfunction.
2. Grey Water Damage
Grey water is contaminated water that poses a health risk. This water may contain bacteria, chemicals, or other contaminants, but it is not as hazardous as sewage water.
Examples: Overflowing washing machine, dishwasher discharge, or water from a sump pump failure.
3. Black Water Damage
This is the most dangerous type of water damage. Black water comes from sources of severe contamination, such as sewage backups, flooding from rivers or oceans, or water that has been in contact with harmful chemicals.
Examples: Sewage backup, floodwaters, or water from a toilet overflow.
4. Flood Damage
Often caused by heavy rainfall, storm surges, or snowmelt, flooding can quickly overwhelm drainage systems, resulting in extensive property damage.
This damage can affect the foundation, walls, flooring, and possessions within the affected area.
5. Basement Water Damage
Water entering basements is common due to rising groundwater, foundation cracks, or sewer backups. This type of damage can lead to mold growth and structural issues.
Causes: Leaking foundation, blocked sump pump, or overflowing sewer systems.
6. Storm Damage
Storms can lead to water intrusion from a variety of sources, including wind-driven rain, hail, or snow. The damage can be caused by roof leaks, broken windows, or flooding.
Examples: Roof damage from wind, broken windows, or flooding from heavy rains.
Each type of water damage requires a specific restoration approach to ensure your property is properly cleaned, dried, and restored to prevent further damage, mold growth, and health risks.

Types of Water Restoration
Water restoration involves various processes tailored to the type and extent of the damage. Here are the main types of water restoration services:
Water Extraction
The first step in water restoration is removing all standing water from the affected area. Professional equipment such as pumps and vacuums is used to quickly and efficiently extract water from carpets, flooring, and walls.
Purpose: To prevent further damage and minimize the potential for mold growth.
Drying and Dehumidification
After water is extracted, drying and dehumidifying the area is essential to prevent moisture buildup, which can lead to mold and mildew growth. High-powered fans, dehumidifiers, and air movers are used to dry the area thoroughly.
Purpose: To eliminate remaining moisture from walls, floors, and other materials.
Mold Remediation
If water damage has been left untreated for some time, mold can begin to grow. Professional restoration services include mold removal and remediation, where mold-infested areas are treated and cleaned with specialized solutions to prevent further growth.
Purpose: To remove harmful mold and ensure the property is safe and healthy.
Sewage Cleanup and Restoration
This type of restoration is needed when water damage involves sewage contamination (black water). Sewage cleanup involves removing contaminated water, cleaning and sanitizing the affected areas, and repairing or replacing damaged materials.
Purpose: To safely clean up and restore the property while addressing serious health risks associated with sewage water.
Water Damage Cleanup
Water damage cleanup involves the sanitization and cleaning of all surfaces affected by water. This includes cleaning carpets, furniture, upholstery, and personal items that have been impacted.
Purpose: To restore cleanliness and prevent contamination from harmful bacteria and debris in the water.
Structural Drying
This involves drying structural elements like walls, ceilings, floors, and insulation to prevent long-term damage and the possibility of weakening the structure. Special equipment, such as dehumidifiers and air movers, are used to ensure all materials are thoroughly dried.
Purpose: To restore the structural integrity of the building.
Flood Damage Restoration
If the water damage is caused by flooding, this type of restoration includes cleaning and disinfecting the entire affected area, repairing structural damage, and restoring the home to its pre-flood condition.
Purpose: To manage the entire process of cleaning up after a flood and return the property to a safe, habitable state.
Fire and Water Damage Restoration
In cases where water damage is accompanied by fire damage, specialized restoration services are required to address both water and smoke/fire damage. This includes cleaning soot, removing water damage, and restoring structural integrity.
Purpose: To restore the property from the combined effects of fire and water damage.
Each type of water restoration is essential to restoring a property to its pre-damage condition, and professionals use advanced tools and techniques to ensure thorough and efficient work.

- Stay Safe
Ensure there are no electrical hazards, and if necessary, turn off the electricity. Avoid walking through standing water if it’s near electrical outlets or appliances.

Why You Should Not Do It Yourself
Addressing water damage on your own can result in overlooked problems such as:
Health Risks
Water damage, especially from sources like sewage or flooding, can contain harmful bacteria, viruses, and mold. Handling this yourself can expose you to serious health risks.
Inadequate Drying
Water damage needs to be completely dried within 24-48 hours to prevent mold growth. Professional restoration teams have the equipment and expertise to properly dry out hidden areas like inside walls or under floors.
Unseen Damage
Water can cause damage that is not visible on the surface. Professionals can detect hidden moisture, which could lead to future structural problems or mold growth if not addressed properly.
Insurance Complications
If you attempt DIY restoration and don’t follow proper procedures, your insurance company may deny your claim. Professionals will ensure that the restoration is done to industry standards, which helps with insurance claims.

Steps in Our Water Damage Restoration Process
Our water damage restoration process consists of the following steps.
Initial Assessment and Inspection
As soon as you contact us, our team will conduct a detailed assessment of the damage. We use specialized equipment to detect hidden moisture and evaluate the extent of the damage, including walls, floors, and ceilings. This step helps us plan the appropriate restoration approach.
Water Removal / Extraction
The priority is to remove standing water quickly. Using high-powered pumps and vacuums, we efficiently extract water from the affected areas to prevent further damage and reduce the potential for mold growth.
Drying and Dehumidifying
Once the water is removed, we deploy industrial-grade fans and dehumidifiers to dry out all affected materials. This includes carpets, furniture, drywall, and flooring. Proper drying is essential to avoid long-term damage and mold growth.
Cleaning and Sanitizing
After drying, we thoroughly clean and disinfect the affected areas to eliminate bacteria, mold spores, and other contaminants. We use EPA-approved cleaning products to ensure your space is safe and sanitary.
Mold Remediation (if necessary)
If mold is detected or a significant amount of time has passed since the water damage occurred, we perform mold remediation. This includes the safe removal of mold and the application of antimicrobial treatments to prevent future mold growth.
Restoration and Repairs
Once the area is dry, clean, and safe, we begin the restoration process. This may include repairing or replacing damaged materials like drywall, flooring, or insulation to restore your property to its pre-damage condition.

Insight Restoration from the moment I called took charge of everything. They handled debris and water clean up, dried out and certified moisture levels, and did all structural repairs competently and within budget. Most importantly, their team members were very courteous, competent, and communicated very well. In summation- I have hired my fair share of contractors over the years and can honestly say that Insight was the best. That seems to be something that is more and more rare!Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google.Posted on GoogleElizabeth ThompsonI recently had the unfortunate need to call Insight Restoration around 9:30 p.m. There was an incident that resulted in our toilet being completely knocked over, water everywhere (though we got it turned off and cleaned up as quickly as possible) and potential floor damage. I honestly didn't know who to call for such a thing and a friend recommended them. I spoke with Shelly, who was so kind and sweet. She even reassured me that the incident was not my fault, as she said, I can't be everywhere all the time. It really did touch me that she would say that. I explained all that happened and she called their mitigation supervisor and then called me back to let me know that Adam would be out by 10 a.m. the next day. (We opted to wait overnight to save money and she didn't pressure me in any way to try to get the work done in the night!) Adam came and checked everything and determined that there was no real need for any repairs other than the toilet getting a new flange and being reset. Shelly gave me a list of plumbers they recommend and by 3 pm, we had someone from Pipe Dreams here who had us up and running in an hour. I'm sad I didn't get his name, as he was great as well. Pipe Dreams invoice was beyond reasonably priced and Insight Restoration chose not to charge us at all. I am incredible grateful for all of their help and kindness during a very stressful time for me. Should the need arise in the future, they will be first on my list as well as Pipe Dreams! I think you'll be able to tell which picture is before and which is after. :)Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google.Posted on GoogleRebekah LittleI recently had the pleasure of working with Insight Restoration, and I am thrilled to share my positive experience.
